Next-Generation Renewable Fuels to Play Crucial Role in Canada's Transition to a Bio-Based Economy
SDTC Canada Makes Annual Call for Applications to $500 million NextGen Biofuels Fund(TM)
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/24/11 -- Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) is issuing its Annual Call for Applications under the NextGen Biofuels Fundâ„¢, which was created by the Government of Canada to support the establishment of first-of-kind large demonstration-scale facilities for the production of next-generation renewable fuels and co-products.
"By helping to create biorefineries, the NextGen Biofuels Fundâ„¢ also aims to add value to renewable fuel production while diversifying the economy in rural and agricultural areas and supporting market and technology transitions in the forestry sector," said SDTC President and CEO Vicky Sharpe. "This will be crucial in helping Canada to transition to a bio-based, sustainable economy."
The NextGen Biofuels Fundâ„¢ supports up to 40% of eligible project costs. The contribution is repayable based on free cash flow over a period of 10 years after project completion.
The fund is open for applications all year-round. To be eligible, a project must:
Next-generation biofuels are derived from non-traditional, non-food renewable feedstocks, such as municipal waste, agricultural and forest residues, and perennial crops on marginal land, and are produced through the use of novel conversion technologies.
