TeraDiode Lands $3.2 Million in Defense-Related Contracts
Contracts Demonstrate Confidence in Direct Diode Technology
(firmenpresse) - LITTLETON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/11 -- TeraDiode's has caught the attention of the US Department of Defense. The company announced today that it has been awarded more than $1.1 million in defense-related contracts and has another $2.1M in defense-related contracts pending award. The company is also developing direct diode lasers for industrial applications.
In just 18 months TeraDiode brought its technology off the page, out of the lab and into real-world testing. The company's lasers are based on TeraDiode's patented , which offers an unmatched combination of simplicity, brightness and efficiency.

The $3.2M in defense-related contracts includes three Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Awards. The SBIR program is a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research and Development. TeraDiode received Phase I contracts from three different defense agencies. The company expects to be awarded Phase II contracts next year.
TeraDiode's patented technology is based on a breakthrough in wavelength beam combining pioneered by TeraDiode co-founders Dr. Bien Chann and Dr. Robin Huang at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. This discovery made ultra high brightness direct diode lasers possible for the first time. TeraDiode holds the exclusive license for this technology from MIT and is building its own base of innovative intellectual property.
