LIVESTRONG(R) Cancer Navigation Center Announces Fall Class Schedule

Fall Classes and Support Groups Designed to Help and Educate Those Affected by Cancer

(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/11 -- The is launching a series of fall classes and support groups offered free of charge to people affected by cancer and their loved ones. People can register by contacting LIVE at 512-220-7777 or .

"These free classes are being offered to the public in order to educate and support those affected by cancer," said Chris Dammert, Director of the LIVE Cancer Navigation Center. "Cancer touches every part of the survivor's life and these classes are designed to help navigate the challenges."

Hosted by LIVE, the classes offered include:

This class discusses the basic components of a Will, explains the current Texas laws concerning estate planning, and answers questions in a group discussion. Participants gain the knowledge and confidence to undertake writing a Will.
Wednesday, September 14, 6-8pm
LIVE Cancer Navigation Center

The Caregiver Support Group is for caregivers of people diagnosed with cancer.
Wednesdays, September 14 - October 19, 10:30am-12pm
Riverbend Church

Cancer Transitions is a workshop designed to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care. Expert panelists including physicians, nutritionists and fitness experts will discuss exercise tailored to each participant's abilities, training in relaxation and stress management and tips for nutritious eating.
Tuesdays, October 4 - November 8, 5:30-8pm
Seton Hospital - Hays County

This class teaches skills and self-sufficiency in preparing healthy, economical meals that are ideal for cancer patients. Participants should be 4 - 6 months out of treatment; longer term survivors are encouraged to participate as well.
Thursdays, October 6 - November 10, 6:30-8pm
LIVE Cancer Navigation Center

Cancer and Nutrition includes information about how foods work to promote or discourage cancer growth and provides a cooking demonstration of simple and healthy recipes. The class translates complex scientific nutrition and cancer research into simple and easy meals.




Wednesday, October 19, 6-8pm

Cancer and Relationships will discuss the effects of cancer on relationships especially in the realm of intimacy and sexuality.
Wednesday, November 16, 6-8pm

The LIVE Cancer Navigation Center, one of just two community-based facilities in the U.S., provides free, confidential one-on-one support in English and Spanish for anyone affected by cancer -- whether you have cancer, or are a loved one, friend, health care professional or caregiver of someone diagnosed. Trained, bilingual navigators are onsite to help individuals address a wide-range of needs including the following:

- assistance coping with a cancer diagnosis, help accessing support groups, as well as peer-to-peer connections

- information on fertility risks and help accessing discounted rates for fertility preservation options

- information on employment rights and benefits, financial assistance and debt management, including insurance and billing issues as well as medication co-pay assistance

- general cancer and treatment information, and matching to clinical trials
