Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs' Statement on the Passing of NDP Leader Jack Layton
(firmenpresse) - HAMILTON, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/22/11 -- Today, Fire Chief Rob Simonds, President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC), issued the following statement on the passing of the Honourable Jack Layton, leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada.
"On behalf of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC), I express our deep condolences to Jack Layton's family, to his colleagues and friends in the New Democratic Party and all Canadians who were inspired by his dedication to public service. Jack Layton devoted a lifetime of passion to improving the lives of those around him. We can all learn from the hope and optimism he brought to public life.
Mr. Layton leaves a legacy of commitment to his community and to all of Canada in his work as a Toronto city councilor, as President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and as Leader of the federal NDP.
The CAFC was fortunate to have worked with Mr. Layton on various public safety issues and we will always remember the genuine interest and concern with which he approached our encounters.
Canada's Fire Chiefs join all Canadians in expressing our appreciation for his tireless service. Today we remember a great Canadian and a friend to so many."
