Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety, Candice Hoeppner, Reaffirms Government Commitment to Safe Communities at Canadian Association of Police Boards Conference

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/19/11 -- Today, Candice Hoeppner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety, Vic Toews, reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting Canada's frontline police officers and making our communities safer. Parliamentary Secretary Hoeppner made these comments during a speech at the Canadian Association of Police Boards' annual conference.

"The Government of Canada has delivered comprehensive measures over the past years to support the vital work of law enforcement professionals," said Parliamentary Secretary Hoeppner. "We will continue to focus on improving measures that work to prevent crime in our communities."

Government action taken since 2006 includes:

"We will continue to do more as we move ahead with our robust legislative agenda to make our justice and corrections systems more efficient and effective," affirmed Parliamentary Secretary Hoeppner. "This fall the Government will move quickly to re-introduce legislation that protects children from sex offenders, eliminates house arrest and pardons for serious crimes, protects victims' rights, and gives law enforcement officials the tools they need to fight crime and terrorism."

"Our police officers are on the frontlines of protecting the safety of Canadians and their communities. We will continue to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to putting in place the tools they need to effectively do their jobs."
