ASDA is Planning to Locate a State-of-the-Art Distribution Centre at Kingsway Business Park Rochdale That Will Result in 800 New Jobs Being Created
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 08/18/11 -- In a joint venture with the Park's developers Wilson Bowden, the retail giant is to develop out a 44 acre site on the 420 acre Park which they hope to have up and running by the end of 2012.
The development would include almost 500,000sq ft of comprised of warehousing and offices, along with a 133,500 sq ft on-site waste recycling centre. It would handle up to three million cases of chilled frozen food per week as well as other food products.
Ant Everett, Head of Network Development for ASDA Distribution, said:
"Since the successful acquisition by ASDA of the Netto business in 2010, the company has identified a shortfall in warehouse capacity covering the North West and Yorkshire. This will be a flagship development, which includes a state-of-the-art recycling centre, and will be one of the most environmentally sustainable developments of its kind in the UK.
"Kingsway's location, and the fact that it has direct access to the M62, makes it ideal to support stores across the whole of the north of England. When it is fully operational, the proposed investment at Kingsway will provide hundreds of new jobs in the area."
Robert Grafton, Kingsway's Development Director commented: "Wilson Bowden Developments is delighted to be working with ASDA to deliver this important new scheme. It represents a further vote of confidence in the Kingsway Team, which recently won an award for partnership working."
John Hudson Chief Executive of Rochdale Development Agency (RDA), said: "This proposal is a significant investment and on completion will be the second largest occupier on the Park after JD Sports. It will mark another significant milestone in the development of Kingsway."

ASDA will join a growing list of occupiers on Kingsway including Vindon Scientific, one of the UK's leading suppliers in the pharmaceutical industry and Takeuchi Manufacturing best known for their extensive range of mini excavators and tracked loaders. CR Laurence, a leading US supplier to the glazing, stone and architectural industries, is also based on the business park, along with EON the contractors for the Oldham and Rochdale Street Lighting PFI, British Millerain, manufacturers of textiles for the military, health and leisure industries. JD Sports is about to take occupation of their new 800,000 sq ft of office and distribution centre.
