Efacec Will Begin U.S. Production of Electric Vehicle Chargers With SmartCharge(TM) Capability

(firmenpresse) - NORCROSS, GA and LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/17/11 -- Efacec USA, Inc., an electric vehicle charger manufacturer and Smart Grid solutions provider, and 350Green, a leading developer of electric vehicle charging networks, announce 350Green's order for 900 Plug-in Electric Vehicle (EV) Level 3 QC50 DC Fast Chargers, the largest single order for Fast Chargers to date. These units will be produced in Norcross, Ga., marking the first time these units have been built in the United States by Efacec.

One hundred forty five (145) units are scheduled to be delivered by December 31, 2011, with the remaining 755 to be delivered by the end of 2014. The units will be installed in cities across the U.S. as part of 350Green's national rollout, which as of August 2011 includes 1,200 public chargers in 18 cities.

The Level 3 QC50 DC Fast Chargers can be used to charge several EV models on the market today and is CHAdeMO compliant including a safety interlock to avoid energizing the connector before it is safe. The QC50's unique power electronics design results in top specifications for conductive DC fast charging. It produces high power output while still maintaining top power factor, THD and efficiency ratings. Depending on the EV, it can recharge a battery to 80 percent in as few as 26 minutes.

Although Efacec has been developing and manufacturing EV chargers since 2008, this transaction will bring the manufacturing of the units to the U.S. for the first time. In September, Efacec will begin producing these units in Norcross, Ga., furthering its goal to become the top manufacturer of EV chargers in the U.S. Efacec was chosen by 350Green for its reputation of high quality, advanced technology and integrated Smart Grid solutions.

This partnership continues to build on Efacec's investment in the U.S. market, which began in 2007 with the acquisition of Advanced Control Systems, a provider of Smart Grid solutions to the global electric power industry. In 2009, a brand new power transformer plant started operations in Rincon, Ga., with the capability of producing the largest transformers in the U.S. Now with this project, Efacec will strengthen its position as one of the leaders in the energy sector using state-of-the-art technology made in the U.S.
