Alberta Artist Feature at Mazatlan Cultural Festival

Von Tiesenhausen, whose work includes paintings, mixed media, installations and sculptures, will create art in Mazatlan from November 9th to 16th. The cultural exchange is part of the Grande Prairie/Mazatlan Sister Cities relationship in an effort supported by the City of Grande Prairie and the .

"With Grande Prairie (Mazatlan has) a very special relationship that, I think, transcends the city and involves the entire province of Alberta," noted Guillermo E. Rishchynski, to Mexico during a recent visit to Mazatlan. "(Mazatlan has) had visits from HMCS Calgary... in recognition of the strong links between Mazatlan and the province."

In his tradition of working in collaboration with nature, von Tiesenhausen will create art inspired by the city of Mazatlan, its people and locally available materials. In addition, the city will provide a central location for the show so the public can interact with the artist as he works. "We are honored that Mr. von Tiesenhausen will be taking part in the arts festival," said Raul Rico, Director of Mazatlan's Cultural Institute. "It will be very special for the people of Mazatlan and Canadian visitors to experience the Sister Cities relationship through art. The most valuable part is that it will be open to everyone - from art lovers to people who may have little exposure to this kind of event," he concluded.

The Mazatlan cultural festival runs from November 1st to December 18th. Other cultural events include the Sinaloa Folkloric Ballet which performed in Vancouver in 2010; as well as , an internationally acclaimed aerial and Dance Company based in New York.
