Message From His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of National Acadian Day
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/15/11 -- I am delighted to extend greetings to everyone celebrating the traditions, heritage and folklore of Acadia on this National Acadian Day.
Though few in number initially, the pioneers who set out to build this majestic corner of the country faced significant challenges to achieve their goal and to give French language and culture a foothold on these shores. Their experience made it possible for us now to appreciate a vibrant and unique culture, one with a strong presence in Canada's mosaic, reaching as far as our neighbours to the south.
As in years gone by, Acadians today want their community to thrive. To me, they are a shining example of persistence and determination; their history is one of resilience, solidarity and joie de vivre.
August 15 provides us with the opportunity to honour these roots dug so deeply in our collective memory and to celebrate the profound cultural wealth of Acadians.
David Johnston
