- Top teams from Ravensburg, Munich und Karlsruhe rank third through fifth
- Team Ecurie Aix wins 1,500 Euro for season's ending party
Some 6,000 spectators, 78 teams, four days, eight disciplines - those are the key figures for the Formula Student Germany 2011. At this year's major VDI event at the Hockenheimring, many teams relied once again on technology and experience from Continental and successfully demonstrated what they are capable of. This year the international automotive supplier again provided a tire service truck and supported more than 30 teams worldwide with highly-specialized vehicle components and technical know-how. The top team DHBW Ravensburg drove on Continental products to reach the number three spot in the Formula Student Electric contest. Team Ecurie Aix from Aachen wins 1,500 Euro for season's ending party.
"Like last year, the teams supported by Continental put in a very good performance. With tires, battery systems, ABS, sensor systems and various other highly specialized components, we offer the engineers of tomorrow an extensive overall package in international design competition," explains Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Continental Executive Board member for human resources.
This year was the sixth time the major VDI event Formula Student Germany was held at the Hockenheimring. Future engineers from international universities had one year to design and build a one-seater prototype on their own, which was evaluated by experts from the automotive industry in three static categories and five dynamic disciplines. In 2010, the students competed not only by building classic internal combustion engines, but for the second time fought against other teams in another competition for the design of electric vehicles. In the second Formula Student Electric, the teams had to design a competitive racing car equipped with a purely electric engine as drive source plus a battery.

In the Formula Student Electric competition, three Continental sponsored teams sped into the top five positions. With top rankings in the categories of "Acceleration" (rank one) and "Autocross" (rank three) the students from Ravensburg achieved third place overall. The teams from Munich and Karlsruhe used Continental components to achieve an overall placing of fourth and fifth in the competition.
The team Ecurie Aix won 1,500 Euro for their season's ending party. They had activated the most fans to cheer for them in a lottery announced on the Continental Facebook Career-Fanpage at www.facebook.de/ContinentalKarriere.
The teams supported by Continental have been invited to an "after race" on September 17 at the Contidrom test track near Celle, where the future engineers will have a chance to test their race cars. The event also provides the opportunity for the participants to share their experience with other teams and the engineers from Continental. In addition, initial ideas and plans for the Formula Student Race 2012 will also be developed at the event.
