Molecular Gastronomy Website Demonstrates How Music Can Create Taste Associations of Sour, Bitter, Sweet and Salty
(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/11 -- , a resource for recipes and techniques, today published a demonstration of an algorithm that can "flavor" a song to generate the taste association of sour, bitter, sweet and salty. The algorithm was developed by a group of scientists and musicians in Argentina.
The research, led by Mariano Sigman (physicist), Bruno Mesz (pianist and mathematician) and Marcos Trevisan, focuses on the relation between music and sensory perception. In this first phase of the project, about the , they have been able to decode the musical parameters that are associated by the human brain with the four canonical taste words.
Can you change the flavor of a song? MolecularRecipes.com will soon allow followers of its Facebook page to submit their favorite song to be "flavorized" by the researchers into four versions representing each of the four taste sensations.
