(firmenpresse) - VISCOUNT, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwire) -- 08/06/11 -- The Village of Viscount has now officially opened its new archery centre, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major infrastructure investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.

"Our Government is proud to have supported the development of a new archery centre in Viscount," said the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. "This investment helps improve the community's recreational infrastructure and will provide the area with added recreational opportunities for years to come."

With funding of $8,750 from Western Economic Diversification Canada under the RInC program, matched by the Government of Saskatchewan through Municipal Affairs, Viscount was able to convert an unused curling rink to an archery centre and install new lighting in their arena and archery centre.

"The provincial government is proud to support this unique and innovative project that brings archery to the community and brings new life to existing infrastructure," MLA Harpauer said on behalf of Municipal Affairs Minister Darryl Hickie. "Recreational projects improve quality of life and allows for Saskatchewan communities to contribute to the Saskatchewan Advantage."

"The Village of Viscount and the Viscount Recreation Board would like to extend our thanks for the support received under the RInC program. Our community now enjoys expanded recreational opportunities with the opening of the new archery centre and energy efficient lighting in our Community Centre," said Viscount Mayor Moe Kirzinger

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program invested $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects helped provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
