Larry Flynt Prevails in Legal Battle With Former Employee
(firmenpresse) - BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/05/11 -- In the latest legal victory for the world renowned publisher of Hustler Magazine, on July 26, 2011, judgment for Larry Flynt was entered in the amount of $160,694.41 against Elizabeth Rene Raymond, a former employee.
In August, 2003, Raymond and her attorneys, Marcus Mancini and Christopher Barnes of Mancini & Associates, had commenced legal action against Flynt and his publishing company, alleging that he created a hostile working environment during Raymond's employment. Ms. Raymond brought her case under the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. Her complaint alleged that she was subject to a "barrage of sexual harassment and discrimination," which included salacious allegations of sexual escapades by Flynt in his private office.
An arbitrator initially awarded Raymond in excess of $1 million in damages and attorneys' fees. That award was ultimately reversed on appeal with the court finding that Raymond and her attorneys had failed to establish any conduct by Flynt or his company that was actionable under California law.
Jeffrey F. Reina, a law partner of Flynt's long-time counsel, Paul J. Cambria, Jr., stated, "We are obviously quite pleased with this result, it is highly unusual for an employer to get a monetary judgment in these types of cases. From the outset we felt that this case had no merit. Unfortunately, the initial decision was wrong, and it took us, together with appellate counsel, Jeremy Rosen, of Horvitz and Levy, years to correct that legal mistake."
