Minister Raitt Meets With Stakeholders to Discuss International Labour Issues
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/04/11 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, was joined by Russ Hiebert, Member of Parliament for South Surrey-White Rock-Cloverdale, today as she met with key stakeholders to discuss international labour issues.
"The Government of Canada is committed to taking a leadership role regarding international labour issues," said Minister Raitt. "Fostering discussions on labour rights is essential to making continued advancements internationally."
This round table provided the Minister with an opportunity to exchange views and seek input from participants on a number of topics, including labour cooperation agreements, the International Labour Organization, and international labour rights and standards.
"I would like to thank the participants for sharing their unique knowledge and insights," said Minister Raitt. "By working closely with our stakeholders we can work towards improving international labour standards."
The Labour Program addresses international labour issues by representing Canada in international forums; negotiating and implementing international labour agreements; implementing programs to improve labour governance in developing countries; promoting internationally-recognized core labour standards; and managing partnerships and consultations with stakeholders. This leadership is integral to the Government of Canada's overall foreign policy direction to support human rights and democratic governance.
