Minister Raitt Congratulates Air Transat and Canadian Union of Public Employees on New Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/04/11 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour, today congratulated Air Transat and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) - Airline Division, for successfully reaching a new collective agreement that will ensure continued service to air travellers.
"I commend Air Transat and CUPE for successfully reaching an agreement without any interruption in services for their passengers," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."
The previous collective agreement, covering a unit of 1 400 flight attendants, expired on November 1, 2010. The dispute was settled with the assistance of an officer from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code. Mediation aims to achieve a collective agreement and avoid work stoppages.
