Purity derived from volcanic rock - the production of filter granulates is in full swing at Rotec
The ROTEC GmbH & Co. KG plant produces siliceous lightweight aggregates with cutting edge technology.
(firmenpresse) - With the Rotocell product the ROTEC GmbH & Co. KG company delivers one of the world's finest qualities of expanded silicate, which includes its uses in water treatment. The siliceous lightweight rock - Pumice - is being increasingly used for water filtration. Many companies rely on the cleaning power of natural volcanic rock. This resulted in supply shortages, especially for the coveted filter substrates that are needed primarily for drinking water purification, seawater desalination and waste water treatment. With the concluded plant conversion and upgrading by the end of April 2011 the production bottlenecks have been resolved.
In the spring of 2010 ROTEC GmbH & Co. KG took over the production plant in Neuwied from the quick-mix Kruft GmbH & Co. KG, a former Raab plant.
To meet the ever-increasing customer demands, the plant was upgraded to the latest processing technology and the complete ROTEC GmbH & Co. KG was certified according to ISO 9001:2008-technology. At the same time, the production capacity was increased to satisfy the continuously increasing demand for filter granulate used for water treatment. In recent years, national and international customers of the Water and Wastewater Technology had to take delivery delays in to account, especially for large projects orders.
In water treatment Rotocell surpasses traditional multi-layer filter material by:
- Greater purity (free of heavy metals and alkaline earth metals such as calcium and magnesium)
- Low density (bulk density: 280 - 310 g / l)
- Porous surface (80% porosity)
- Low abrasion
- High stability in the filter
- Very good cleaning during backwashing
- Reduced flushing speed
- High efficiency and long service life
- Very good value for money
- High security in the application
- Smaller and more energy-efficient pump technology
Rotocell is already successfully used at plants in Europe, the Gulf States and The Americas for drinking water treatment and seawater desalination.
