Growing expertise in pollution reduction

(PresseBox) - Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG (KSPG) of Neckarsulm, Germany, a member of the Rheinmetall Group, has agreed with enTec CONSULTING GmbH of Hemer, Germany, to take over the rights to enTec's independently developed "UniValve" variable valve control system. KSPG plans to market the new system to customers in the international automotive industry.
A purely mechanical design and thus highly reliable, "UniValve" offers great potential for reducing fuel consumption and the resulting CO2 emissions of current and future generations of engines. In addition, it improves the responsiveness of gasolinepowered engines in particular. The first German and foreign carmakers have already conducted tests with complete engines.
"Fully variable valve control is a key technology for reducing CO2 emissions from cars", declares Dr. Gerd Kleinert, Chairman of the Executive Board of Kolbenschmidt Pierburg, adding that, "we are convinced that it will play an increasingly important role in current and future gasoline engines."
Following intensive analysis of the market, KSPG decided that "Univalve" was the best available system in this segment. Furthermore, under a separate cooperative agreement with enTec, it was agreed that the company's managing partners, Prof.Dr. Rudolf Flierl and Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Hannibal, would in the future continue to serve the Kolbenschmidt Pierburg Group in an advisory capacity during the process of perfecting and marketing the "Univalve" as well in the transition to full-scale serial production. "We're very pleased to have acquired the rights to this system, and to have Professors Flierl and Hannibal onboard for an extended period", reports Dr.
Hans-Joachim Esch, in charge of Research and Technology at Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG.
"UniValve" was developed using the most advanced methods and resources for naturally aspirated and turbo-powered engines, and has already been presented to the first potential customers. "Particularly at a time when reducing fuel consumption is becoming increasingly important, "Univalve" is a highly relevant product that can be readily integrated into a wide variety of engines at a reasonable cost", notes Prof. Dr. Rudolf Flierl, Managing Director of enTec CONSULTING GmbH. His business partner and colleague, Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Hannibal, adds that, "we're delighted to have found a competent partner company like Kolbenschmidt Pierburg that believes in our system and intends to go into serial production with it."

"UniValve" is protected by numerous German and international industrial property rights. Moves by Kolbenschmidt Pierburg to acquire the rights to the system were already underway in late 2010.
