Breakage-free inline cleaning and coating of 2-dimensional substrates
CorClean / CorCoat? innovative system combines transportation and wet processes
(PresseBox) - Substrates used in the solar and semiconductor industries are becoming increasingly thinner and more liable to breakage. In consequence, extremely gentle handling and processing techniques are required to clean and coat such materials, such as the innovative CorClean and CorCoat systems from acp GmbH. The systems enable a wide range of wet processes to be carried out inline on substrates with thicknesses between 50 µm and 20 mm ? either on one side or on both sides simultaneously.
CorClean and CorCoat made by acp ? advanced clean production GmbH have been developed as wet process systems for cleaning or applying nano-range homogeneous coatings to 2-dimensional substrates, such as solar cells and wafers, inline. For example, the systems can be utilized to apply liquid media to enhance semiconductor activity, improve adherence characteristics for subsequent processes, increase surface area or for the application of coatings functioning as depletion layers.
Gentle transportation and processing thanks to patented roller technology
The innovative technique enables substrates to be transported and coated in a single step. This has been made possible by a patented technology which uses special particle-free rollers. Arranged in pairs, the rollers can handle extremely thin or fragile 2-dimensional substrates (as thin as 50 µm) so gently that they can be coated without breaking using a through-feed method. The special design of the rollers also ensures that coatings are applied homogeneously and free of particles. In contrast with conventional methods, depending on requirements CorCoat can be utilized to apply coatings to one or both sides. With the two-sided application, the coating is applied simultaneously via rollers located above and below the substrate. A further advantage is the fact that the process medium can be optimally applied either via spray bars or directly via the rollers. In combination with integrated media return, this reduces media consumption to a minimum.
Effective cleaning performance
As well as carrying out various coating tasks, CorClean can also be used to clean 2-dimensional substrates. Cleaning media such as water are applied directly to the substrate via the spray bars. Simultaneously, due to a relative movement caused by the different speeds of downstream roller pairs, a wiping effect is created which guarantees a high cleaning performance.
Easily to automate and integrate
Standard CorCoat and CorClean systems are max. 70 centimeters in width but wider systems are available on request. The compact system can thus be optimally adapted to the required substrate width as well as to the required throughput. The minimum automation effort involved also enables simple, cost-effective integration into existing production lines. Additionally, CorCoat and CorClean can be implemented in so-called one-piece-flow manufacturing environments or as stand-alone solutions. The robust and cleverly-designed construction ensures maximum system availability and low lifecycle costs for all types of application. Depending on the coating medium used, the system can be specially fitted with explosion protection and/or designed for emission-free operation.
