fluidOps and HPI Enter Strategic Partnership
WALLDORF – fluid Operations™, a leader in cloud computing and semantic technologies, and Hasso-Plattner-Institute (HPI), University Center of Excellence in IT Systems Engineering, today announced a strategic partnership that will focus on the promising fields of cloud computing and semantic technologies.
(firmenpresse) - The semantic web is no longer a futuristic vision. Methods and technologies that allow machines to understand the meaning of information and intelligently process it on the World Wide Web are already being used. However, the entire field of applications can only be estimated. Further research is necessary to exploit the full potential of this field of study.
In this context fluid Operations (fluidOps) and Hasso-Plattner-Institut (HPI) today announced the beginning of a long term cooperation. Dr. Peter Haase, leading the research activities at fluid Operations emphasizes the value of this partnership: „The liaison between fluiOps and HPI promises significant developments in the field of semantic technologies and cloud computing. I am confident that our joint research will result in profitable solutions for industrial problems and demands.”
Both partners are already engaged in joint projects. Students at the HPI have recently received the Scalable Data Analytics for a Smarter Planet Innovation Award from IBM, for their GovWILD project. GovWILD integrates Open Government Data about politicians, parties, government agencies, funds, companies, and industrial leaders into a clean and consistent data set and enables semantic searches. Three students are currently extending GovWILD with new data sets and integration methods, building upon fluidOps’ Information Workbench, which with its focus on Linked Data application development, provides flexible and extensible interfaces for integrating and connecting data from different sources. Further, the Information Workbench implements novel interaction paradigms to search, visualize and explore interrelationships of data.
“The exchange and integration of semantic relevant information is a pestering problem in today’s highly dynamic and complex world. The main motivation of integrating information originates from the wish for a global and complete view if the world”, Felix Naumann, HPI.
In the scope of the strategic partnership fluidOps and HPI will be offering various internships and Master Theses in the field of semantic technologies. It will be exciting to follow this top-class partnership and see what interesting developments evolve from it.
