The Kolbenschmidt Pierburg Group buttressing its aftermarket business
(PresseBox) - Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG (a member of the Rheinmetall Group) is buttressing its global aftermarket business. To this end, the group has acquired as of December 15, 2010, the business operations of Burkert Fahrzeugteile GmbH & Co. KG, Asperg, Germany. An agreement to this effect has been signed with the latter's insolvency administrator.
Burkert enjoys an international reputation as a specialist in such commercial vehicle engineering parts as crankshafts, camshafts, cylinder heads, cylinder liners and connecting rods where it is market leader in Europe. In fiscal 2009/10 it generated sales of around ?35 million.
Located in the Stuttgart region, the acquiree will continue to operate at its Asperg location, henceforth in the Kolbenschmidt Pierburg Group's Motor Service division as a separate company under the name of BF Germany GmbH.
Comments Hansjörg Rölle, CEO of MS Motor Service International GmbH: "Burkert's line specializing in commercial vehicle engineering parts dovetails perfectly with Motor Service's existing one. We intend to market our products as jointly strengthened players that offer their aftermarket customers a portfolio of engine parts again significantly expanded."
BF Germany will have a workforce of some 85. Another 16 employees at Burkert Motoren & Diesel Center GmbH (likewise a member of the Burkert Group) will also be offered employment.
The German Cartel Office has already given the go-ahead for the takeover.
