465 pages of power semiconductor knowledge
Power Semiconductor Application Manual
(PresseBox) - Semikron presents the German version of its Application Manual straight from the printing press - just in time for the fair SPS / IPC / Drives. The 465-page-long manual provides electronics experts with detailed information on the selection and use of IGBT, MOSFET, diode and thyristor components.
The Application Manual contains detailed application-related information such as electrical configuration for key operating conditions, driver and protection elements for semiconductors, thermal dimensioning and cooling, tips on parallel and series connection, assembly tips for optimised power layouts with regard to parasitic elements, as well as notes to help users better understand datasheets and the requirements that arise from specific ambient conditions. Assembly and connection technologies which have a major impact on the properties of semiconductor modules and the limits in field applications are also described, as are reliability data, life cycle analyses and key test processes. Excerpts of the German manual can be found at www.semikron.com/de/Buch and www.sindopower.com.
Semikron will initially be publishing the manual in English and German. The German Application Manual is available for ?9.90 under the ISBN No. 978-3-938843-56-7 and via the Sindopower power electronics eCommerce portal at www.sindopower.com where the e-book is also available. The English version will be available in early 2011. Korean and Chinese versions are in the pipeline.
"The affordable price makes this work accessible to a multitude of users", comments Dr. Arendt Wintrich, one of the four authors of the manual and specialist for applications and simulations at Semikron. "This book is written for users and provides help with component selection and design-in work. It couples a vast wealth of experience with detailed practical knowledge, the result being a vast pool of information which up till now has been spread across various specialist articles or in the minds of experts only." The three co-authors are Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Nicolai and Dr. techn. Werner Tursky from Semikron, and university professor Dr.-Ing. Tobias Reimann, head of Industrial Electronics at the Technical University of Ilmenau.
Since the last Semikron Application Manual for IGBT-, MOSFET-, Diode- and Thyristor power modules appeared in 1998, the technologies and areas of application for these components have changed drastically and grown immensely, especially in the area of renewables and electric vehicles. This book is thus twice as thick as its predecessor.
