Competitive Edge instead of expensive Downtime
The Bizerba e-Service provides remote first aid
(firmenpresse) - Balingen, 5th july 2010, for ongoing production, long downtimes can be expensive for producers. However, the times, in which technicians had to come to the site to inspect the systems for every software and hardware problem, are over. Because the latest information and communication technologies now make remote service support possible.
Technology manufacturer Bizerba is offering their e-Service, “Our product specialists can access the system directly through the internet and promptly analyse software and hardware problems,” says Robert Keller, Director Business Services at Bizerba. This service is particularly popular for newly installed systems to support employees on-site with any start-up difficulties during the familiarisation stage.
“The e-Service reduces on-site service assignments and facilitates short downtimes by means of rapid diagnosis in case of problems. This is worth a lot of money to our customers,” continues Keller. As well as software updates, the technology also enables function changes within the existing software, the back-up of equipment configuration data, remote operation and remote printing.
A survey from the Fraunhofer Institute for secure telecooperation supports Bizerba in its claim that the data transfer between customer and service team is secure. At the beginning of a meeting, the service employee contacts the proxy server using a consulting programme. This creates a random meeting number, which the employee forwards to the customer by telephone. The proxy server allocates the consultant and client to one another after the number is entered and then switches to the communication server – the connection is made.
After the connection is set up, the client initially sees the consultant’s screen. Using the application selection, he can authorise the applications that should become visible to the consultant. The client also has to explicitly approve the relevant remote control rights. “The client has full control of the remote access and can abort it at any time using the F11 key. The VeriSign certificate guarantees that the software comes directly from us and there have been no changes made by third parties,” says Keller.
The Bizerba e-Service is available for all SC and CE devices, the GLP 80/160 printers, the GLM-I series ticketing machines and the CWM 750/6000/1000 checkweighers. In addition, it can be used for the WinCWS, WinCIS, SPC Pro and PSS software.
