If historic building structures can not be protected by subsequent sealing against moisture and efflores-cence, the moisture regulation render "Exzellent" from MC Bauchemie is a sound solution.
The building substance of the Carmelite monastery in Frankfurt on the Main consists of partly stuccoed rubble masonry. It shows heavy moisture penetration due to missing horizontal and vertical barrier layers, along with efflorescence attributed to high salt concentra-tions.
The restoration extent was determined by the installation of new fittings, the fire protection improvements of the building, the necessary reconstructions while the property was in use and the city archives, which remained open throughout.

(firmenpresse) - For longterm and lasting damage repair, the architects Nieper & Partners from Darmstadt and Scheffler & Partners from Frankfurt depended on the exceptional qualities and the beneficial effect of the moisture regulation render Exzellent with Poraver expanded glass granulate as mineral lightweight filler.
The physically and structurally superlative material has been used for the refurbishment of historic buildings successfully for over 14 years.
A total of 750 square meters were carefully reconditioned in 3 stages with Exzellent: the cellar vault in the restaurant area, the parapet walls of the cloister, both interior and exterior, and the walls on the outside.

Due to special additives and the unique pore geometry, the plaster has a highly permeable structure. The special pore geometry of the non-hydrophobic, allows for up to 15 times the evaporation rate of conventional restoration renders.
Thus, the masonry moisture is unobstructed in reaching the render surface. The salts are carried with the moisture through the render to the surface and can no longer negatively impact the building structure.
Therefore, Exzellent the moisture regulation render is preferred by planners and processors as an effective and efficient protection while renovating wet masonry and damp walls in both the interior and exterior of a building.

Unternehmensinformation / Kurzprofil:

Due to the unique material structure, the render always remains open-pored and dry on its surface, which prevents the formation of mold and promotes a healthy, ecologically acceptable indoor climate.
Upon application Exzellent excels with easy process-ing, fast drying times, high stability and low shrinkage. It can also be applied very thick due to its low weight. These excellent properties are not least supported by the innovative filler Poraver. For more than 25 years the lightweight aggregate has now become an integral part of quality products of renowned render manufac-turers.
The effect of the moisture regulation render Exzellent is in full operation when used for brick masonry, concrete, quarry and concrete stones.

Frank Kissner, MC consultant on Exzellent, assisted the construction teams during the three phases of con-struction with the analysis and the application of the moisture regulation render.

Construction phases, processes, volumes and masses
The first phase of construction, vaulted cellar in the restaurant area, up to 1 meter above top floor, on about 250 square meters:
1. Remove the colour from the rubble masonry
2. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzel-lent as machine applied pre-render
3. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzel-lent as machine applied render in an average applied thickness of 3 centimeters
4. To ensure the increased moisture regulating effect of the FRP Exzellent, a highly permeable silicate-based paint was used.

Second phase of construction, parapet wall of the inner cloister, approximately 120 square meters:
1. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzellent as machine applied pre-render
2. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzel-lent as machine applied render in an average applied thickness of 2.5 centimeters
3. To ensure the increased moisture regulating effect of the FRP Exzellent, a highly permeable silicate-based paint was used.

Third phase of construction, base and wall surfaces in the outdoor area, about 250 square meters:
1. Removing of old plaster
2. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzellent as machine applied pre-render
3. Application of the moisture regulation render Exzel-lent as a two-layered machine applied render in an av-erage thickness of about 1.5 centimeters each
4. To ensure the increased moisture regulating effect of the FRP Exzellent, a highly permeable silicate-based paint was used.
