More than 1,300 participants will be flocking to the Geocaching Mega Event Pinzgau on 28th May in Zell am See-Kaprun

Who cannot remember them from childhood days? Treasure hunts! But even for adults, following hints which guide them to a hidden treasure still has a special allure and promises a thrill of excitement. All around the globe, people set out to search for small caches with unknown content. The name of the global phenomenon is geocaching. From 28th to 30th May the international community of hobby treasure hunters will be flocking to Zell am See-Kaprun to engage in this high-tech version of hide-and-seek combined with many aspects of orienteering.

(firmenpresse) - More than 1,300 participants from 18 countries have already registered for the treasure hunt in Pinzgau, thus the name 'Geocaching Mega Event' is more than appropriate. While in your childhood days there were arrows or scraps of paper with hints which led you to your destination, today electronic devices guide you on your hunt. In Zell am See-Kaprun, you will set out on your discovery tour through nature equipped with a GPS receiver, too, of course, which displays your position and the location of the hidden cache via satellite. In Pinzgau, you can choose from 350 caches.

Many of them have been hidden in the same spot for quite a while already. Their coordinates are posted at the official website at www.geocaching.com on the Internet, for instance. On the occasion of the Mega Event weekend from 28th to 30th May the members of the 'Pinzgauer Geocacher' club have hidden at least 20 additional caches in the region, the coordinates of which will be published on Saturday morning before the great hunt is kicking off. However, technology alone does not guarantee success; participants need some intuition for treasure hunting and where exactly the cache is hidden in the end as well.

On finding the hidden container, the lucky treasure hunters sign the logbook. If you want to, you can deposit a small toy or trinket as a trading item and take one of those you find in the cache with you. That is the way it was done with the 'O.C.B.' which is the abbreviation for 'Original Can of Beans', the content of the first cache which was hidden by the inventor of geocaching David Ulmer about ten years ago. Among geocachers the 'O.C.B.' is a cult item. As a special highlight it will be displayed in Zell am See-Kaprun which is the first time that it comes to Europe - appreciate this one-of-a-kind opportunity!

The Geocaching Mega Event Pinzgau 2010 has been initiated by the Club of 'Pinzgauer Geocacher' and promises fun and excitement for experienced cachers as well as for newcomers. 'It is laudable that the community of geocachers in Pinzgau is organizing an event of this magnitude. In recent years Pinzgau has become an extremely interesting region for geocachers', says Roland Temper of Groundspeak, operator company of the website www.geocaching.com.

In addition to the hunt, guests can look forward to a climbing taster course - just in case the cache is hidden in rough terrain. Furthermore there is a party with live music and the selection of the most creative cache at Zell's ice rink. And on Saturday the youngest guests are sure to have a blast during children's entertainment.
