Kölleda/Budapest, April 13, 2010. The Hungarian state railway MÁV has
chosen technology by Funkwerk AG (ISIN: DE0005753149) for the modernisation
of its information infrastructure. The specialist company for professional
communications and information systems has won a major contract from MÁV
with a volume of several million Euros. By late 2011 Funkwerk will supply
and install a nationwide information system for networked pro-active
monitoring of rail traffic in Hungary.
With the new system, which will integrate the already existing subsystems,
MÁV is consistently pursuing a policy of standardisation and integration of
the Hungarian planning and operations processes into the European railway
network. At the same time this measure will allow discrimination-free
access to the MÁV network for other transport companies. The solution
developed by Funkwerk Information Technologies GmbH (Funkwerk IT) on the
basis of the operations control technology platform TRAVIS will enable
monitoring of the entire track networkwhich has a total length of
approximately 7,600 kms.
TRAVIS has already been used successfully for many years by a number of
other railway companies in Europe. These references enabled Funkwerk to win
the tender in spite of strong international competition. The advantages of
Funkwerk's solution are its modular system architecture and the open
interfaces for integration of existing systems. Furthermore, the modern,
maintenance-friendly computer technology ensures that this is a
future-proof investment.
The pilot implementation on the Budapest-Hegyeshalom section is to go into
operation in six months' time. It is planned to complete the entire project
within a period of only 18 months. Then the advanced version of TRAVIS
developed for MÁV will monitor railway traffic throughout Hungary from
approximately 800 workplaces in the operations monitoring system.
