SGS is pleased to announce the acquisition of the business of Australian Soil
Testing Pty Ltd, (AST), Sydney, NSW, Australia. Based in Rockdale, AST is a
construction materials and geotechnical testing laboratory. AST has a strong
reputation in the delivery of high end material testing services to the civil
construction, mining and engineering consulting industries. The acquisition
complements the recent acquisition of the Western Geotechnics Group by adding
capacity on the East Coast for construction materials testing and by expanding
the service suite to address the demand for high end testing and research
services from the market.
Founded 20 years ago and privately owned, AST employs 16 people and generated
revenue in excess of AU$ 1.6 mio in 2009.
"This acquisition is in line with SGS's Industrial Services strategy" said Chris
Kirk, CEO of SGS "and will further strengthen SGS' presence in Australasia. We
are now better positioned to serve our customers with higher value and
integrated services to take advantage of the improving economic situation. "
