Clenergen Corporation today announced that it has signed a strategic alliance
with Energy Technologies Pty Ltd to form a new company, Clenergen Southern
Africa (Pty) Limited, for the specific purpose of developing distributed
environmental power systems (DEPS) and the cultivation of energy crops in
Southern Africa. The new company will be focused on:
* supplying wood chips for regionalized installations of gasification biomass
power plants;
* supplying a turnkey solution for major mining companies in order to secure a
sustainable source of energy and control over their energy costs;
* Supplying pellets for co-fired coal power plants; and
* Exportation of wood chips and pellets for distribution within Southern
Africa and export to the Middle East and Indian Sub Continent.
Energy Technologies Pty Ltd (ETPL) are project developers with over 15 years
experience in the cultivation of feedstock's for renewable energy and have a
close working relationship with the South African Government, Eskom and major
mining companies located in South Africa and Zambia. ETPL have a depth of
experience of Gasification Technology and Thermal Equipment suppliers located in
South Africa. In 2008, EPTL conducted eight months of independent trials of
various biomass feedstocks's using a 4MW gasification power plant located near
Johannesburg, South Africa. The company has secured favorable financing
arrangements with with a major gas turbine engine supplier and certain
exclusivity agreements with Bioferm GmbH, Germany (www.bioferm-energy.com
patented dry fermentation biomass process. The company's process engineering
and agronomy experience and business relationships provide an ideal partner of
Clenergen both in South Africa and other regions in Africa and SE Asia.
Commenting on the new alliance Mark Quinn, CEO of Clenergen said "The
requirements for sustainable sources of energy in Southern Africa have reached a
critical level, especially among the major mining companies and regionally
across South Africa. On average, the large mining operations consume in excess
of 30MWe of electricity and are under pressure to control energy costs and
secure new sources for supplying sustainable energy. The acceptance of
Independent Power Producers now offers a profitable marketplace for the
cultivation of biomass for power generation. We believe that the natural
climatic environments of Southern and Eastern Africa offers a cost effective
supply base for mass production of energy crops for localized power generation,
export to both biomass power and co-fired coal power plants."
