Tieto takes full ownership of Tieto Broadcasting IT Oy

Tieto and Yleisradio (YLE) have agreed that Tieto will acquire 20% of Tieto
Broadcasting IT Oy's share capital. Tieto Broadcasting IT was previously a joint
venture owned by Tieto (80%) and YLE (20%). The final realization of the
acquisition requires the approval of the Finnish Competition Authority.
In 2009 Tieto Broadcasting IT's revenue was EUR 22.7 million and it had 97
employees. The company provides IT system consulting and development services
and services related to the applications and infrastructure management for YLE.
"Our close co-operation with YLE will continue. Our aim is to offer YLE high
quality IT services also in the future and to ensure that those services are
developed according to the customer's needs. The new arrangement will bring all
of Tieto's extensive expertise and offerings to the customer's benefit," says
Ari Karppinen, Country Head of Finland, Tieto.
"YLE's argument for having minority ownership in the joint venture has become
outdated over the years. The availability of cost-effective high quality IT
services is increasingly important for YLE, and acquiring them through a
customer relationship is also in line with the reforming public procurement
