COLEXON Energy AG intensifies her commitment in the US
Hamburg/Raleigh (North Carolina), March 09, 2010. COLEXON, a leading
project developers and operator of high-yield solar power plants, announces
new success in the US solar market. In Raleigh, North Carolina, COLEXON
engineers have realized a 255 kWp solar power plant on the roof area of a
fresh water tank. From now on, this tank will supply the region with
environmentally friendly electricity in addition to fresh water.
While in Germany the future development of solar subsidies is currently
being discussed, the internationally positioned COLEXON group is securing
her business in the US. 'With this project we show once more that we also
establish ourselves sustainably in international growth markets such as the
USA', emphasized Thorsten Preugschas, CEO of COLEXON Energy AG. On this
note, COLEXON and the project owner, Carolina Solar Energy, LLC (CSE), have
commissioned a rooftop solar power plant in Raleigh, NC, in the Eastern
part of the USA, composed of 3,400 modules from the leading thin film
manufacturer First Solar which have been installed on the 10,836 m2 roof of
the tank of a fresh water treatment plant using the Schletter WindSafe FR
System. These provide an efficient and environmentally friendly generation
of energy in the future.
Highly efficient plant
The total capacity of the plant, developed by COLEXON, amounts to 255 kWp.
Using 34 inverters manufactured by SMA to convert the direct current into
grid-compliant alternating current, the plant is designed to produce up to
368,475 kilowatt-hours annually. This energy volume will cover the energy
demand of about 100 households per year. Moreover, 326 tons of CO2
emissions can be saved. At the beginning of the project, the static
load-bearing capacity of the roof area presented a challenge. But thanks to
the competence of the experienced COLEXON engineers as well as adequate
technical solutions no obstacles remain in the combination of fresh water
supply and electricity generation for future projects similar to
Raleigh.
