Cloud Computing Applications

One-card solution offers competitive advantages in data center environment

Norcross, Georgia, USA and Martinsried/Munich, Germany. February 17, 2010. To
enable highest-capacity, universal data center connectivity, ADVA Optical
Networking
pr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000> today announced the latest
version of its flagship FSP 3000
nepr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000> product. Optimized for
cloud computing
inepr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000> applications, the
FSP 3000 drives the scalable, high-speed connectivity required to address the
fast-growing bandwidth demand of today's cloud-based data center interconnect
inepr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000> environment.

Cloud computing is designed to provide pay-as-you-go services, which are
attractive to enterprises looking to decrease expenses and outsource labor- and
equipment-intensive computing functions. Due to the business-critical nature of
many enterprise applications, data center operators today must deliver reliable
storage and compute resources at often very short notice.

With new capabilities, the FSP 3000 enables operators to provide ultra-high
bandwidth between data centers and remote backup locations. The FSP 3000
empowers an operator to choose any transport protocol at any rate and transport
it over a fully tunable long-haul DWDM
nepr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000> channel. With simple
point-and-click provisioning, the FSP 3000 can deliver speeds that range from
1, 2, 4, 8 to 10Gbit/s, while addressing all storage interfaces currently in use
in today's data centers, including Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and Ethernet, among
others.

The FSP 3000 also offers optional encryption. Security is addressed at the most
efficient and cost-effective transport layer, providing high security with
minimum impact on latency. It thereby creates a strong and viable solution for
high-performance networks in the data center and cloud computing environment.

"In the context of Cloud Computing, the network is a critical asset and the
selection of the right transport technology is vitally important. Most existing
multi-protocol platforms require protocol conversion and add significant latency
to the network. Our new FSP 3000 does not," stated Christoph Glingener, chief
technology officer of ADVA Optical Networking. "We provide
software-provisionable transport with minimum latency. This is imperative for
cloud computing environments and all run-time sensitive applications. And like
all previous releases, the FSP 3000 is qualified in all IBM mainframe and
server-clustering applications. This is a strong solution that data center
managers and network operators will benefit from tremendously."

The ADVA FSP 3000 is a scalable Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM
nepr&pi_campaign_id=9183&utm_campaign=100217Cloud3000>) system specifically
designed for service providers and large enterprises that require a flexible,
cost-effective system that will multiplex, transport and protect high-speed
data, storage, voice and video applications. For more information, click here
