EETCargotec participates in the Baltic Sea Action Summit (BSAS) joint venture,which is designed to lay out measures to save the Baltic Sea. Cargotec has beenactive in co-operative work and research around the Baltic Sea since thebeginning of 2007 and presented its commitment to concrete action on 19 May2009. Cargotec wishes to promote understanding about the need to prevent climatechange, which also has an effect on the health of the Baltic Sea.Cargotec is defining environmental targets for different phases of the supplychain and steps for implementation have already begun. They start with thepurchase and logistics of incoming components and end with final products andtheir appropriate use.According to Mikael M?nen, President and CEO of Cargotec, the company'scommitment is demonstrated by its actions: "Over the last year we emphasisedsustainability in the products that we offer, for example, the launch of anelectronic shuttle carrier and electric cranes for bulk carriers. We have alsoimproved our training services for customers, including training for moreeconomical driving that reduces fuel consumption. These are part of a largerEcoService concept, which is currently being developed. "We have started to build a new assembly factory in Poland, where we will havea pellet heating solution and are studying alternative energy sources forelectricity.
