(Thomson Reuters ONE) - KESKO CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 28.01.2010 AT 09.00 1 (1)Kesko ranked 33rd on the 'The Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in theWorld' list, announced at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos,Switzerland on 27 January 2010. In the 2010 Sustainability Yearbook, Kesko'sresponsibility work qualified in the SAM Silver Class in the Food & DrugRetailers sector. No companies qualified in the Gold Class. In the yearbook,Kesko was also recognised as the "Sector Mover", a qualification given to thecompany that has achieved the biggest proportional improvement in itssustainability performance.Kesko has been ranked among the global 100 most sustainable corporations sincethe list was first launched in 2005.In 2010, ten social and environmental indicators were used to evaluate companies.The environmental indicators were used to assess issues relating to companies'energy, carbon and water consumption and waste ratio."We really appreciate the international recognition given once again to Kesko'swork for responsibility. We have been working for the environment on a long-termbasis. Carbon dioxide emissions of the electricity purchased by Kesko to theK-Group dropped by 80% in 2008. The average waste recovery rate in Finnishdistribution centres is 88%. We have signed the trading sector energy efficiencyagreement and made a commitment to save over 65 GWh by the end of 2016. Thistarget equals the annual energy consumption of some 15 stores the size of aK-citymarket," says Paavo Moilanen, Kesko's Senior Vice President, CorporateCommunications and Responsibility.The Sustainability Yearbook 2010 was published by SAM, which has for elevenconsecutive years carried out the annual assessment of sustainability practicesof the companies included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
