A total of 3.1 total recordable injuries occurred per million hoursworked across the company, compared to 14.5 as recently as 2005. This level ofperformance puts Neste Oil among the best in Finnish industry in terms of safetyand is also good from a wider European perspective.Neste Oil's Porvoo refinery recorded 5.2 recordable injuries per million hoursworked in 2009 and its Naantali refinery 2.3. The comparable figure for theNExBTL renewable diesel construction site in Singapore was 1.31, while that forthe NExBTL plant under construction in Rotterdam was 2.77.Neste Oil's performance is excellent compared to typical safety levels in thechemical industry. Companies in the Responsible Care program coordinated by theChemical Industry Federation of Finland registered an average of 15.7 lost workday injuries per million hours worked in 2008. Corresponding statistics forNeste Oil in 2009 was 2,2."Neste Oil's position is that all incidents and injuries are preventable.
