Spectraseis, the leading provider of lowfrequency seismic solutions to the upstream oil & gas industry, today announcedthe completion of a Low Frequency (LF) seismic survey for Shell Egypt N.V in theNorth East Abu Gharadig (NEAG) Basin, Western Desert, Egypt. The survey objective was to introduce LF technology in the Western Desert ofEgypt. The project is the largest ever LF seismic synchronous survey, with 110data points recorded over four days. The survey data is currently beingprocessed with initial results expected in early February 2010.The project took place with the logistical support of Ardiseis, a regional jointventure between CGGVeritas and TAQA in the Middle East region, and covered a 60square kilometer area in one week using a team of 17 crew members. It also saw the mobilization of 120 recording stations - the largest equipmentshipment for a single LF seismic survey by Spectraseis, and featuredSpectraseis' recently launched field acquisition system, Field Office 2.0 andits innovative numerical technique Time Reverse Imaging (TRI). TRI spatiallylocalizes the source of hydrocarbon microtremors, allowing operators to directlyimage hydrocarbon reservoirs at depth.Spectraseis Director, Karim Lassel, said:"The completion of this survey represents a number of major milestones forSpectraseis - it is the first survey with Shell in the North African region, itmarks our first collaboration through Ardiseis, and it is the largestsynchronous survey we have ever completed."He continues:"The size and remoteness of exploration activities in North Africa, the region'sgeological complexity, and the need to reduce exploration risk make this anideal location for LF seismic surveys. Furthermore, the fact that we couldcomplete the survey so quickly, with so few infrastructure resources and HSErisk and with such a light environmental footprint, is testament to the hugebenefits LF seismic brings to oil & gas exploration."His words were backed up by Ahmad Saleh, GeoSolutions Manager at Shell EgyptN.V, who said:"We would like to commend Spectraseis and Ardiseis for a smooth and successfulfield operation in which they have shown high commitment to HSE. We aredelighted to be working with Spectraseis in testing the applicability of LFseismic technology in the Western Desert. The ability to cover such a broad areain a short time and without recourse to heavy field equipment can prove to bequite beneficial for our future exploration activities."Spectraseis' Time Reverse Imaging (TRI) technique spatially localizes the sourceof hydrocarbon microtremors by feeding measured signals to the velocity signal, thus numerically estimating the depth origin of spectral anomalies. TRI plays animportant role in applying low frequency passive seismic data analysis toidentify spectral anomalies originating at the reservoir. The result is asubsurface image that suggests the hydrocarbon reservoirs at depth.Spectraseis' Field Office 2.0 enables the acquiring and managing of field datato be quick and efficient as well as providing early quality control. Thehandheld devices, all with built-in GPS receivers and running data acquisitionsoftware, record the location of the sensor placement, collect photographs ofthe environment using a built-in camera, and with a built-in barcode readeridentify the specific acquisition instruments being used.Established in 2003, Spectraseis is the principal technology and serviceprovider in the fast-emerging field of low frequency seismic geophysical surveysand data analysis. Spectraseis helps oil and gas companies reduce risk and moreefficiently find and produce hydrocarbon reserves by providing valuable newsubsurface information. In October 2007, Spectraseis won the 2007 World OilAward for Best Exploration Technology. In 2009 Spectraseis received the annualSwiss Economic Award in the high-tech/biotech category.Note to editorsAbout SpectraseisSpectraseis is the principal technology and service provider in thefast-emerging field of low frequency passive seismic geophysical surveys to helpoil and gas companies more efficiently find and produce hydrocarbon reserves.Zurich, Switzerland-based Spectraseis researches and applies proprietarytechnologies to acquire and analyze low frequency (<10 Hz) seismic backgroundwaves continuously present in the Earth's subsurface in order to identifyspectral attributes indicating the likely presence or absence of hydrocarbonsand other characteristics of subsurface reservoirs within a survey area. Theresulting information can greatly reduce the risk and improve the success rateof costly oil exploration and drilling activities and improve decision-makingthroughout the life of a field. Broad adoption of the company's technology bythe global oil and gas exploration and production industry can be expected tosave billions of dollars each year which is currently expended on non-productiveexploration surveys and dry wells, as well as significantly improve theindustry's environmental performance. For more information, please visit www.spectraseis.comAbout CGGVeritasCGGVeritas is a leading international pure-play geophysical company delivering awide range of technologies, services and equipment through Sercel, to its broadbase of customers mainly throughout the global oil and gas industry. ###All product and company names herein may be trademarks of their respectiveowners. For further information, contact:Karim Lassel, Business Development Director Europe and AfricaTel +41-43-500 5886karim.lassel(at)spectraseis.com Ross Newman, Chief Executive, Spectraseis AGTel. +41 43 500 5828 or +41 78 697 5888ross.newman(at)spectraseis.com Paul Fisher, Axiom Communications ManagementTel: +44 (0) 1285 713 776pfisher(at)axiomcomms.com [HUG#1376949] --- End of Message --- Spectraseis AGGiessereistrasse 5 Zurich Switzerland Spectraseis Press Release - Shell Egypt survey 26 January 2010.pdf: http://hugin.info/137808/R/1376949/338298.pdf Spectraseis image - installing LF recording station for Shell Egypt.jpg: http://hugin.info/137808/R/1376949/338301.jpg Sprectraseis image - preparing LF survey equipment for Shell Egypt.jpg: http://hugin.info/137808/R/1376949/338299.jpg Spectraseis image - calibrating LF sensor in Egypt.jpg: http://hugin.info/137808/R/1376949/338300.jpg
