Ruukki to further improve efficiency and adjust construction and engineering operations in Finland

(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Rautaruukki Corporation  Stock exchange release 25 January 2010  at 9amRuukki is to further improve the efficiency of construction operations atVimpeli, Alaj?i and Per?in?ki in Finland and to transfer the manufactureof components for the engineering industry from Per?in?ki to other units.The employer-employee negotiations initiated in December last year have nowended at these sites.The negotiations resulted in the loss of 52 jobs, with 22 of the personsaffected being subject to various pension arrangements. In addition, new jobswere found elsewhere in Ruukki for 19 persons. When the negotiations wereinitiated, it was estimated a workforce reduction of a maximum of 100 people wasrequired.Ruukki will assist in the re-employment of persons facing redundancy by, forexample, local training programmes carried out in association with the Finnishemployment services. In addition, data about persons facing redundancy will becollected centrally to ensure any vacancies arising are primarily offered toredundant employees.Due to weak market conditions, it may also be necessary to implement temporarylayoffs not only at the above production sites, but also in the constructionbusiness development organisation and in building construction sales.
