Mainstream Canada and Ahousaht First Nation signed a new protocol agreement
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Mainstream Canada and Ahousaht First Nation signed a new protocol agreement onJan 8, 2010. The protocol guides the principles for working together andestablishing a sustainable and mutually beneficial salmon farming operation.This is in the Hahoulthee of the Hawiih, the traditional territory of theAhousaht, where business practices are conducted in an environmentally, sociallyand economically sustainable manner.- Mainstream acknowledges that our farming area is situated in theHahoulthee of the Hawiih and that the Ahousaht have claims for constitutionallyprotected rights and title within this area, says Fernando Villarroel, ManagingDirector of Mainstream Canada.Elements of the agreement for Ahousaht include Economic Benefits, Training andEducation programs, Salmon Enhancement funding, Employment, Contracting andBusiness Opportunities.- We are very pleased with this agreement. The agreement is based onclose and good cooperation with Ahousaht, providing opportunity for positivedevelopment both for Mainstream and for Ahousaht.
