MAV places order for 25 locomotives for national and international passengerservicesBERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - January 21, 2010) - Bombardier Transportation hasreceived an order from the Hungarian State Railway company, MAV, for 25BOMBARDIER TRAXX P 160 AC locomotives valued at approximately 80 million euros($112 million US). The contract also includes an option for a further 25locomotives. The delivery of the first locomotive is scheduled for spring 2011.According to MAV, the locomotives, which operate with alternating current (AC),are intended for passenger service in Hungary as well as for cross-bordertransport to Austria and Germany.Dr. Imre M?us, Chief Executive Officer of MAV-TRAKCIO Co. commented: "Ourlocomotive investment project and the purchase of the new TRAXX locomotives arevery important for achieving better energy efficiency within our fleet andreplacing older locomotives. The TRAXX locomotives arecharacterised by their modular assembly as well as their innovative BOMBARDIERMITRAC propulsion and controls system, already in use in over 3,800 locomotivesworldwide.The final assembly of the AC locomotives for MAV will take place at theBombardier plant in Kassel, Germany. The car bodies will be produced atBombardier's site in Wroclaw, Poland, the bogies in Siegen, Germany and thebogie frames in our Hungarian site of M?anov?
