Promoting young talents a major goal at the
Heimtextil
(firmenpresse) - The Heimtextil in Frankfurt am Main will open its doors from 13 to 16 January 2010 under the motto ‘Take a Walk on the Style Side’. With a unique range of products and services, the world’s biggest trade fair for home and contract textiles will once again be the global meeting place for manufacturers, dealers and designers from all continents. In addition to this broad spectrum, the Heimtextil is also distinguished by a comprehensive complementary programme ranging from showcases to lecture forums, panel discussions and a variety of workshops.
“Every year, we prepare a multifarious programme that offers both exhibitors and visitors insights into the latest trends in the sector. With our ‘Let’s talk about it!’ lecture forum in particular, we tackle subjects such as entering new markets, export strategies and brand and licence management, which are of great importance to the sector in times of economic difficulty”, explains Olaf Schmidt, Vice President, Textile Fairs, of Messe Frankfurt. As in 2009, ‘Let’s talk about it!’ will be held in Hall 8.0 while, at ‘Let’s have a look’ in Hall 3.1, the spotlight will be on architecture and materials. The Contract Creations section is being further expanded and the Heimtextil Trends will once again be staged prominently in the Forum. “Another emphasis of the Heimtextil will be on promoting young people via the two highly successful Young Contract Creation Awards: Upholstery and Wall, and Rooms for free. We have already received over 70 entries from all over Europe for the Wall promotional award and another 70 –plus for the Upholstery award. This confirms we are on the right track with our efforts to bring young talents to the attention of a large audience of experts”, adds Schmidt. Rounding off the complementary programme is ‘Heimtextil goes City’ on the Saturday of the fair.
‘Let’s talk about it!’ with Contract Day on flat linen in the contract business
‘Let’s talk about it!’ is the name of the area in Hall 8.0 that, in addition to a lecture forum, includes the exhibitors in the Contract Competence Centre and a refreshments lounge. On the first three days of the fair, the lectures will revolve around topics of current interest to the sector. On the Wednesday, renowned speakers from consultancy firms, the trade and industry will discuss the subject of trademark and licence management. On Thursday, the focus will be on export and market-entry strategies and, on Friday, on the contract business.
Friday is Contract Day in Hall 8.0 and the spotlight will be on flat linen in the contract business. “This special day is aimed primarily at decision makers in the contract business, such as hotel operators, purchasing managers and housekeepers, and will include lectures, guided tours, etc., especially for this important target group”, says Meike Schad, Director, Household Textiles, Messe Frankfurt GmbH. The subjects to be discussed include: to lease or purchase flat linen, patient and care hotels, hygiene standards for flat linen in the hotel and health & care sectors and the results of the recent FutureHotel study by the Fraunhofer Institute.
In the Contract Competence Centre, the Heimtextil and the German Dry Cleaning Association (Deutscher Textilreinigungsverband – DTV) call upon new or returning exhibitors from the textile-service sector – service providers or contract specialists – to present their complete spectrum of products and/or services to a broad audience of trade visitors.
The new European Mattress Joint Stand, the IWTO Design Award and a bedding showcase present innovations and ideas revolving around the bed: the Wellness – Trends for Bedding showcase links function and lifestyle and presents the mega-trends of wellness, nature and health.
‘Let’s have a look’ combines workshops, lectures, guided tours and awards ceremonies related to Contract Creations
In Hall 3.1, visitors will find the ‘Let’s have a look’ showcase embedded in the high-grade ‘More Living’ section for the floor, wall and window product segments. Being organised in cooperation with AIT architectural magazine, the showcase is a meeting place for innovative product solutions, workshops, lectures and architect tours.
On the Wednesday and Friday of the fair, Material ConneXion Cologne, leading international scout for innovative materials and technologies, will hold materials workshops on the subject areas of ‘Organic Innovations’ and ‘Smart Textiles’. These workshops are aimed primarily at product developers, designers and marketing experts who want to develop new concepts for their own products in cooperation with materials experts.
On the Thursday, the Heimtextil and the German Hotel Association (IHA) will turn the spotlight onto rooms for women. Under the title, ‘Hotel rooms for women’, the lectures will discuss the growing target group of women as hotel guests. The IHA carried out a poll on this subject and the results will also be presented during the event. Other lectures will be given on best-practice examples, such as implementing design concepts especially for female guests.
Also on the Thursday, AIT trade magazine will invite architects and interior architects to take part in guided tours of product innovations by renowned manufacturers for the contract sector. In the afternoon, there will be a new panel discussion on the subject of ‘3-D ornaments’ as part of the AIT dialogue event. 3-D ornaments refers to the expansion of ornaments into the room, i.e., into the third dimension, which is a current architectural phenomenon. Ornaments are no longer building decorations but also create rooms. Renowned architects, designers, artists and theoreticians will present and discuss their positions.
The day will be rounded off by the presentation of the 7th Architecture, Textile and Contract Innovation Award at the Heimtextil. For the first time in 2010, the traditional procedure of the award will be supplemented by innovative trend scouting. On the first day of the fair, around 25 architects will visit all relevant exhibition halls and search for new generations of innovative products from the contract-textiles, textile room-divider / sun-protection systems, wall coverings, wallpaper and furniture product groups, which are of particular interest to architects and interior architects. The 15 most-mentioned products will go forward into a second evaluation round and, on the Thursday, a second jury will decide on the winners of the trend scouting.
On the Friday of the fair, companies and sales managers will have the opportunity to find out more about how to make contact with architects and interior architects. Starting at 10.30 hrs, publishing manager and editor-in-chief of AIT magazine, Dr. Dietmar Danner, will give three lectures on the subject of ‘Multipliers and decision makers: architects as a target group in the contract business’ in his capacity as a freelance consultant.
The Heimtextil trade fair has been giving great emphasis to the contract business for more than five years and, with Contract Creations, it has shown how to break into the expanding market for hotels and restaurants, the office, congress and conference centres, clinics, care and rehabilitation. A proven marketing service, the Contract Creations Signet, a carpet tile that draws attention to the relevant exhibitors in the halls, will also be used again at Heimtextil 2010. To help visitors find their way to exhibitors of specific interest to them, Messe Frankfurt will publish the Contract Guide 2010. Moreover, with the internet portal at www.contact-contract.com, the Heimtextil makes available practical reports of topical interest from the contract business, simplifies the search for contacts in the contract-furnishing segments, provides an easy guide to the exhibitor positions with the Contract Creations hall plan and offers order and download options for the Contract Guide.
‘Heimtextil goes City’ on 16 January 2010On 16 January 2010, around 30 of Frankfurt’s interior decorators, bed stores, book stores and galleries will open their doors to show consumers the latest trends from the Heimtextil trade fair. Under the motto ‘Style Experts: Style Fabric meets Fabric Style’, specialist retailers will present inspiring creations, innovative materials and the latest home-fashion trends. This glimpse behind the scenes and discussions with experts will create that Heimtextil feeling in the city centre.
This is the sixth ‘Information Platform for Consumers’, a cooperation between the Interior Decoration Guild (Raumausstatterinnung), Frankfurt am Main, and the Heimtextil. Galleries and book shops with the focus on interior design, architecture, the home and design, have been taking part in ‘Heimtextil goes City’ since 2006. In 2010, more of Frankfurt’s cultural institutions will take part in ‘Heimtextil goes City’. As in 2009, they will also include the ‘Palmengarten’ botanical gardens.
Promoting young talents a major goal at the Heimtextil
The Heimtextil gives young design talents a platform in the form of two awards: Young Contract Creations Awards: Upholstery and Wall. At the Young Contract Creations Award: Wall, the focus is on design metropolises and, in 2010, young designers are asked to draw their inspiration from Havana. A special feature of this competition is the interaction of design and handicrafts with the designs submitted being put into practice at a special live show in Hall 5.0. Under the motto ‘sit and wait’, the focus of the Upholstery promotional award, which will be given for the third time in 2010, is on textile seating furniture, i.e., ideas for the design of waiting rooms in doctors’ surgeries and clinics, at public authorities and in lounges for charter passengers or frequent flyers. Additionally, young people have the chance to exchange ideas with trade visitors in Hall 1.1.
For the fourth time, the Heimtextil is providing the ‘rooms for free e.V.’ association with the space needed for the ‘Campus’, a joint stand at the fair that is coordinated and organised by European design academies. The Chemnitz-based association was founded with the aim of bringing together Europe’s art academies and to create more points of contact between educational institutes and the corporate world. The academies, which come inter alia from Denmark, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Turkey and Spain, present their professional work to an audience of experts and simultaneously make contacts for the future.
