Automated Learning From Computer Errors - S4M supports research project of RFH Köln
S4M -Solutions for Media GmbH participates in the academic research project “automated learning from error information” (ALaF) of the faculty of Business Informatics at the Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln (University of Applied Sciences) after being invited by SQS Software Quality Systems.
(firmenpresse) - The aim of the research project, which recently was authorized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is to improve development processes by the automated analysis of computer errors. S4M – Solutions for Media will provide all the know-how and adequate case scenarios, which have been gathered in international and large software projects over the years.
Dr. Siamak Tadjiky, S4M´s Vice President Broadcast Management Systems: “We develop highly complex software systems at S4M that visualize the core processes of our clients´ - which mainly are TV Networks - business concepts. Certainly the analysis of software bugs in the development process has a significant meaning. Thus we are looking forward to apply our experience on the one hand, then again to participate in the results of this project and to integrate them in daily working processes.“
The research project will develop an error analysis procedure that identifies errors in software-development projects and can already delete them during the ongoing project. The automated analysis of bug-information is supposed to be performed by a data-mining-application which can be connected to standard tools of error documentation and error tracking as an open-source-software. Beyond that an introductory concept for this automated procedure of error analysis and testing in practice is planned.
With 92 percent of the possible valuation points the proposal for the research project AlaF was rated notably positive. The Federal Ministry has assured a sponsorship of two and a half years.
“At present two employees each are preparing a scientific work dealing with the research project”, says Prof. Dr. Ralph Trittmann, Head of the degree programme Business Informatics at the Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln and Project Manager of ALaf. “The results of both works will move our research project another big step forward”.
Since the scientific works will be presented in the middle of November 2009, it is planned to hold the next meeting for the participants of this research project at the end of November.
