TSIS 2010
More than 2000 participants expected at TSIS 2010 in Munich
Scientists can submit research abstracts for the Arthur E. Baue Award
(firmenpresse) - Munich, August 4, 2009 – Sepsis represents the third most frequent cause of death in the western world following cardio-vascular diseases and cancer. In Germany, annually around 150 000 people are diagnosed with sepsis, 60 000 patients (40 %) will die. Predomi-nantly hospitalized surgical patients are most susceptible to acquire an opportunistic infec-tion due to preexisting morbidities. Thus, even minor or routine surgical interventions may result in a fatal outcome.
Furthermore, sepsis is associated with substantial financial burden for public health and health insurance companies: 1.7 Billion Euros are spent for the intensive care treatment of septic patients per year. This equals to 32 percent of the overall expenses of German hos-pitals incurred for their intensive care units (information: Deutsche Sepsis-Gesellschaft e.V.).
The scientific program of the 8th World Congress on Trauma, Shock, Inflammation and Sepsis - TSIS 2010 contains around 90 individual symposia, covering numerous topics within the context of the congress.
Thus, besides the multiple facets of sepsis and multi organ failure, TSIS 2010 will also dis-cuss the crossroads of cancer and inflammation, the application of stem cell technolo-gies for the recovery and reprogramming of injured or destroyed organ systems as well as the management of massive bleeding and hemorrhagic shock, or the interdisciplinary management of obesity, just to name a few major topics
A total of 125 different program items are displayed for discussion platforms on the congress website (www.TSIS2010.org).
TSIS 2010 represents the new issue of a worldwide most prestigious medical conference focusing on the most recent findings, developments and innovative concepts for the recognition and treatment of acute and chronic systemic inflammatory diseases.
The congress will be held from March 9th to March 13th in Munich, Germany and more than 2000 visitors from all over the globe are expected to attend.
Scientists from nearly all clinical subspecialties, basic researchers and professionals from all biological and biomedical fields will attend TSIS 2010. Delegates from numerous medical universities of the Western hemisphere and Asia as well as the pharmaceuti-cal/biotechnological industries will discuss the recent progress in the assessment and therapeutic approaches of major systemic illness and trauma.
The best scientific projects presented during TSIS 2010 will be recognized in different cate-gories with the Arthur E. Baue Research Award.
In addition, also 30 Travel Awards will be given, to recognize the most brilliant and innova-tive research work, submitted from junior investigators for presentation in the areas of Cell-/Molecular Biology, Clinical Pathophysiology, Monitoring/Imaging and Therapy.
The deadline for abstract submission is November 6th, 2009. For further information re-garding the scientific program, sponsoring and registration visit www.TSIS2010.org or call +49 89 7095 5461 (-2461)
