Canadian carriers select Transmode iWDM
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Stockholm, Sweden, 2nd July 2009 - Transmode, a leading provider ofoptical networking solutions, today announced that it had beenselected by Sogetel and Groupe Télécom Warwick, two local exchangecarriers in Canada to enhance their network capabilities to meetincreasing customer demand for IPTV, telecommunications, Internet,and data services.The two companies jointly chose Transmode Intelligent WDM (iWDM(TM))optical networking elements as building blocks to consolidateexisting traffic and enhance the network capacity of their existingoptical infrastructure.Half way between Montreal and Quebec, Sogetel and Groupe TélécomWarwick provide telecommunications and internet services to bothbusiness and residential customers dispersed over a largegeographical area. They shared a common SONET optical ring which bothcompanies needed to upgrade with an overlay IP network infrastructureto fulfill a large and growing demand for increased bandwidth. Thedemand in Sogetel's case was mainly driven by the provision of newIPTV services. After a comprehensive study of the costs and benefitsof solutions provided by many optical vendors they chose to deployTransmode iWDM equipment."The decision to deploy Transmode equipment was based on thesimplicity of the building blocks they provided us as well as greatvalue in terms of price, quality and on-going cost of support." saidDominic Germain, Director of Internet Services at Sogetel. The new joint network provides each carrier with analternate protection route via the other carrier's portion of thenetwork in addition to the benefits of a higher speed and highercapacity network.Groupe Télécom Warwick equally had a need for more services and IPbandwidth and like Sogetel deployed both Transmode's TS-Series andTM-Series products.
