Zell am See-Kaprun: dashing through deep powder snow
Holidaymakers can experience the magic of freeriding in manifold camps and workshops
(firmenpresse) - On the local mountains of Zell am See and Kaprun, winter sports enthusiasts voluntarily stray from the right path. The reason: the backcountry of the region has an absolutely irresistible appeal! Passionate skiers and snowboarders who are looking for a unique temptation cannot afford to miss the opportunity to set out for a freeriding tour into the pristine deep snow. Even in late spring 3,000-metre-high Kitzsteinhorn offers perfect conditions. But holidaymakers cannot only look forward to indulging in sparkling white snow in the glacier skiing region but off the prepared slopes, too. For everyone who is curious to experience the adventure of freeriding, the region has a large variety of individual offers up its sleeve - from workshops for beginners to weekend camps for advanced athletes.
What is most important in freeriding is safety. When athletes leave the prepared ski runs to venture out into the backcountry, new rules apply. To make sure that they are observed, there are the experienced guides from Zell am See-Kaprun who know the region and potential dangers in the Alps like the back of their hands. In workshops, they teach newcomers in this sport the right behaviour off the 138 kilometres of marked pistes. However, it is not only the presence of the skiing teachers which guarantees for the safety of the participants: when setting out for a trip on Langwied or Magnetköpfel route which starts at 2,900 metres above sea level, off-piste skiers are equipped with a shovel, an avalanche probe and receiver.
That way, holidaymakers can focus on dashing through metre-high snow. And on so-called 'Freeride Monday' athletes learn the right technique for doing so. Every Monday from 9 am, Kitzsteinhorn offers courses with certified guides in which small groups with a maximum of eight participants spend one entire day in the deep snow. Until May interested guests can get enrolled for a weekend workshop, too. And for the ladies there is the 'Women Freeride Camp' offering trips to the untouched backcountry and yoga classes to relax and unwind afterwards.
Another exciting highlight in the deep-snow offers of Zell am See-Kaprun is 'The Freeride Experience'. From Thursday to Sunday everything will revolve around the unique adventure of freeriding. Board and lodging, equipment and three freeride trips are included in the organizer's package. The last opportunity in this season for small groups to set out for the backcountry is from 19th to 22nd March 2009. And if you continue to hear the call of the mountain later in the year, you can look forward to crunching firn snow.
