Model-driven Realization of Standard-based Supply Chains
Oracle Applications- and Technology Solutions for Logistics and SCM
(firmenpresse) - Ettlingen November 6th, 2008 – Financial crises, short capacities or the market’s volatility are only three of the challenges that companies offering logistics services have to encounter at the time. Dr. Frank Schoenthaler, CEO of PROMATIS software GmbH sees the optimally designed supply chain as crucial factor for success. This became especially clear in his keynote “Optimizing the Supply Chain with SCOR-Reference Processes and Oracle Applications” at the Logistics & SCM 2008 held by the German Oracle User Group (DOAG) and Oracle on September 30th in Bonn. The solution approach is described by PROMATIS’ trend sheet “Oracle Solutions for Logistics & SCM”, a model-based optimization and implementation of logistic chains.
“Optimal supply chains bring simultaneous planning of products, manufacturing procedures and sales strategies under one hat, just as well as coordinated cooperation of all business partners” says Dr. Schoenthaler. Optimizing the supply chain is according to that a strongly collaborative process. Modern enterprise software solutions therefore focus on collaboration in planning, steering, performance and monitoring logistic processes. Now it is also decisive in how far virtual enterprise structures or a company-spanning data- and knowledge management are supported.
The PROMATIS solution idea is based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR) of the Supply Chain Council. SCOR is used as a uniform communication platform, which enables users to discuss their own supply chain procedures and in doing so: to improve them. SCOR-Reference processes are also used for the model-driven implementation of enterprise software solutions. The functionality of applications, e. g. of the packaged business software Oracle E-Business Suite, is initially illustrated via business service models. These describe among others business procedures, business objects, and business rules within a uniform graphic notation. By orchestrating business services the changeover from reference model to application takes place. Afterwards the customization according to customer requirements is done. Dr. Schoenthaler ensured that with this procedure the optimization and realization of specific supply chains can be done in one step without any problems.
When implementing model-driven business software solutions PROMATIS uses its proven procedure model Integrated Quality Process Model (IQPM™). First the actual processes are analysed and structured, followed by process optimization on a model level and then designing a target process model. Both structuring the actual processes and the target process are geared to SCOR-Reference models. The target process model is mapped to pre-fabed business service models. These are made available by PROMATIS for all common modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite. Based on the business service layer the business software solution is implemented as well as customized upgrades. The chosen procedure therefore also meets the requirements of modern service oriented architectures (SOA).
