End of 2008 Sports Software Will Also Be Available For the Newcomer Handset Platform

As eSymetric executive Tom Henne stated in Munich today, eSymetric's sports software “Run.GPS” will be ported for the mobile operating system Android. Work is already in progress and the first release is due to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2008.
Android is a platform for mobile devices like mobile phones and Smartphones. It is developed by the Open Handset Alliance, to which well-known companies such as T-Mobile, Intel, Motorola, Samsung and eBay belong. The project has been initiated by Google with the goal of creating an open platform for mobile devices.
Run.GPS (www.RunGPS.net) is a mobile sports software which uses GPS position data to enable target-oriented training for amateur and professional athletes. It can be used with a variety of Smartphones from HTC, Sony, LG, Samsung, HP, and other companies. The software lives in a world-wide community (www.GPS-Sport.net) and offers its users training aides, precise training analyses, outdoor navigation via earphones, and easy access to maps.
According to Microsoft, 20 million mobile devices based on the Windows Mobile platform will be sold in the year 2008. In contrast to that, Android is still waiting in the wings – first devices are expected at the end of 2008. According to analysts from Canalys, in the year 2007, 118 million Smartphones were sold world-wide, which is an increase of 53% over 2006. Because of the broad basis of participating companies, Android has good chances to quickly win over important market shares in the area of platforms for mobile devices.
