World-class photographic collection opens in May
100 000 photos, some of them very rare, 10 000 photographic books and 1000 cameras are the inventory of the "Museum der Photographie" near Vienna, Austria.
(firmenpresse) - The story of the „Museum der Photographie“ in Austria is quite unusual. For a period of 25 years Mr. Erwin Schwab, originally a goldsmith, collected historic photography on an international level.
The result is a collection that spans from early Daguerrotypes to recent artistic photography. Thus it spans a period of more than 160 years.
100 000 photos, 10 000 photographic books and 1000 cameras are now the wealth of the small museum, founded by Mr. Schwab.
One special aspect of the collection is that it incorporates examples of almost all photographic methods ever invented. Ambrotypes, Woodburytypes, gum chromate and bromoil prints – all are there. The collection represents a treasure both in art and in history.
The museum was originally founded in 1991 but will be relaunched on May 3rd 2008.
It is situated very close to Vienna, Austria´s capital, in a nice village by the name of Fischamend - only 5 kilometers from Vienna International Airport.
The opening hours are Friday-Sunday, 08:00-18:00 hours. Entrance fees are 4,50 Euro for adults and 2,00 Euro for children and young persons under 16.
