The Brazilian photographer Eddy Novarro (1925-2003) knew the great artists of his time: Warhol, Chagall, Miro, Dali, Picasso, Giacometti, Rothko, Lichtenstein and many others were standing in front of his camera. His Close Up portraits of the artists, about 40 photos are first shown in a German gallery. The Brazilian, who was born in Bucharest Eddy Novarro (actually Vasile Novaru, around 1925 - 2003) was traveling as a globetrotter through the world of art. On his travels through the art movements of the fifties to seventies he visited pioneering painters and sculptors. His photos are radical close ups, in which he portrayed the shown neither by light nor atmospheric accessory. Novarros close-up images look very honest and private, so that some critics called him "Sigmund Freud of photography".
