Enescu Festival and Competition bring Romania and Europe together.

(businesspress24.com) - (by Alexandra Solea/PPS) During the 1st and the 23rd of September, Bucharest was the European capital of music, with the occasion of the 18th edition of “George Enescu” International Festival and Competition 2007. The concerts proposed to the wide public, covered a large stylistic palette beginning with the baroque music until the contemporary tendencies of Romanian and European music.

The Festival has reunited the biggest names of the national and international musical scene: the ensembles “Hyperion”, “Profil”, “Archaeus”, “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the National Opera from Bucharest, “Moldova” Philharmonic Orchestra from Iaşi, “Madrigal” National Chamber Choir, National Choir of Spain, Orchestre de Paris, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, “Arturo Toscanini” Philharmonic, Dresdner Philharmoniker, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Munchner Philharmoniker, the conductors: Cristian Mandeal, Horia Andreescu, sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Christoph Eschenbach, Emmanuel Krivine, Paul Goodwin, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, Charles Dutoit, Michel Plasson, Lawrence Foster, Ion Marin, the soloists: Steven Isserlis, Pinchas Zucherman, Lise de la Salle, Nelson Freire, Abdel-Rahman El Bacha, Martha Argerich, Dan Grigore, Murray Perahia, Polina Leschenko, Leonidas Kavakos, Joshua Bell, Evgeny Kissin, the ensembles: Zuckerman Chambers Players, Europa Galante, Camerata Lysy, Hespèrion XXI, Münchner Bachsolisten, Freiburger Barok Orchestra, “Bejart” Ballet Company etc.

The organisers proposed different series of concerts, starting with “Mornings with Enescu’s music” at 11.00, the series of chamber music concerts at the Romanian Atheneum, at 17.00, the symphonic concerts at the Palace Hall, at 19.30, ending the day with the series of concerts in the Romanian Atheneum at 22.30, dedicated to the baroque music this year.
Other important aspect of this event was the International Violin, Piano and Composition Competition between the 2-7th of September and the International Symposium for Musicologists organised by the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union, between the 5-8th of September.

For almost one month, music became the only way of communication in Bucharest, being the state of spirit given by the different sides of artistical manifestation: visual art exhibitions, opera and theatre spectacles, open-air concerts sustained in the Festival Square by students from the music schools and high-schools and different ensembles, dance performances, movies etc.

Since the first edition, in 1958, until the present day, George Enescu International Festival and Competition was one of the biggest manifestation of this type in Europe reuniting personalities of the musical scene and giving the opportunity to feel the presence of the Romanian composer in every concert hall, with the occasion of each artistical manifestation, so, it can be said that for almost one month, George Enescu was again between us!

“The aim of this edition of the Festival is to promote Romanian - and her most important composer – George Enescu’ s music all around the world. Our target is represented on the one hand by the most important and well know artists and ensembles - to (re) discover our music Romanian music an on the other hand, to offer to the (young) Romanian audience the values of the word culture. The festival is also concerned to promote new names in music, like we did every edition with the winners of the previous competitions”, stated the festival representatives. AND They are right: Festival and competition bring Romania and Europe together.
